More about Goro & Buno General Trading:
This lot constitutes a portion of the coffee production sourced from one of the esteemed washing stations, owned and meticulously managed by Mr. Abiyot Boru, who is also the founder of Buno General Trading.
Mr Abiyot was born in Bule Hora Wereda of Western Guji Zone, in a town called Gerba. His parents were coffee farmers as coffee was one of the traditional products in the area and Abiyot has been involved in the production since his childhood, helping with cultivating, weeding, watering nursery beds, and harvesting cherry. He started his coffee business by purchasing cherry from growers and selling them to nearby stations.
The Goro station is situated in the Hambella area within Western Guji Zone and it is one of 7 stations in the Guji area owned by Buno Trading. This lot is composed of cherry cultivated and harvested by 12 farmers with average land of around 6 hectares. The cherry is delivered and sold at the station where it is processed by the Buno team and employees. The coffee is sorted and dried on raised beds, being turned regularly to ensure even and consistent drying.
To support the local producers and enhance their farming practices, the company has assembled a dedicated field team. This team engages in imparting essential agricultural techniques and fosters strong bonds with the coffee producers, encouraging a spirit of collaboration and continuous improvement. This larger size of farm makes it more manageable for Buno agronomy team to help implement improvements within the fields leading to increased quality and returns.
Recognizing the efforts of the contributing producers, Buno General Trading extends an additional premium for every kilogram of fully ripened cherries delivered during the harvest's off-season. This incentive scheme encourages the producers to exercise patience and supply only the highest quality cherries, thus promoting a superior coffee output.
Understanding the seasonal financial constraints faced by farmers, Buno General Trading extends a unique interest-free financial line of credit during the off-season to meet harvest-related expenses. The loans granted are subsequently deducted from the cherry delivery payments, ensuring a mutually beneficial arrangement for the farmers and the company.
This is the first year that coffee from Buno have been introduced to us via the Falcon team and this along with another natural lots stood out on the cupping table of pre-shipment samples earlier this year. It’s an absolute gem of a natural and an awesome coffee to showcase some of the tastiest coffees from this year’s Ethiopian offering. Expect a jammy body and loads of violet-like florals with flavour notes reminding us of berries and ripe nectarines.
