CUPPING CLUB : Rwanda Talk & Pre-shipment Cupping

  • Curve Coffee - Cafe & Store (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Join us for an evening of guided coffee tasting. We're excited to bring you another session of our Cupping Club! This one is with a special focus on Rwanda - the land of the thousand hills, mountain gorillas and delicious coffee!

Our open cuppings - aka guided coffee tastings - are free to attend and open to all. The beauty of coffee cuppings is that there's always something to learn no matter your level of experience. Whether you're a seasoned cupper or it's your first time trying this kind of thing, we're all about creating a welcoming space for everyone.

You'll have a chance to taste various different coffees side by side, develop your sensory skills and learn more about processes and producers.

This session will have a special focus on Rwandan coffees. We will share a short presentation of what we've learned from our recent trip to Rwanda with our import partners Raw Material and hosted by our Rwandan export partner Muraho. You will be able to learn more about Rwandan coffee production in context with the country's unique environment and recent history.

We will then taste a full table of Rwandan delights some of which are currently on the way to the roastery and will be released later on in the year. You'll have a chance to taste the unique profiles of the differrent regions and washing station around Lake Kivu, as well as different processing methods perfected by the Muraho team.

One of our previous cupping events with special guests Valentina and Gabriel from Siruma - our export partner in Colombia.

We cannot wait to see you there!

Introduction to Coffee Tasting & Sensory Skills Workshop

Let’s learn how to taste coffee & unpack where its flavours come from!

This 2.5h sensory workshop is focused on exploring the journey of coffee from seed to cup, our perception of flavour and the sensory attributes we find in coffee and where they come from.

The session is divided into three parts. In the first part of the session we learn about the factors contributing to forming a flavour profile of a coffee from seed to cup. Starting from geographical origins and plant genetics, through to agronomy and processing, roasting and brewing.

In the second part we explore various tastes, aromas and how they come together to form our sensory experience of flavour. We calibrate our palates by recognising aroma and flavour references we use in coffee evaluation.

And lastly, we bring this all together through a guided 'cupping' - professional coffee tasting. We experience first hand the impact that geography, processing, varieties and more have on the flavour in our cups.

Pricing:
£60 per person
(incl. 20% VAT) INCLUDING A BAG OF COFFEE TO TAKE HOME!

Capacity: up to 4 attendees per session

  • Curve Coffee - Cafe & Store (map)

Join us for an evening of guided coffee tasting. This one is a special edition with spotlight on Mexico and special guest - Jessie May Peters from our importing partner Raw Material!

Jessie will share a presentation about Mexican coffee production, particularly in the Oaxaca region where growers we purchase coffee are based, talk about some of the main challenges they face and opportunities speciality coffee can bring. We will also be virtually joined by Thomas Pingen from Red Beetle Coffee Lab - exporter partner in Mexico sharing more about the wonderful work they do with the producing communities. And finally we will taste a table full of Mexican coffee delights from community lots through traditional micro-lots all the way to special preperation and rare variety selections. It’s sooo much fun!

All level of experience are welcome and it is a free event but please let us know you’re coming.

We cannot wait to see you there!

We are passionate about sharing what we do with our community of coffee lovers and are excited to resume hosting regular open cuppings - coffee tastings - in our Margate cafe. Happening roughly once a month, we prepare a guided cupping of our current (sometimes upcoming) offerings and share stories behind the coffees and their producers. In our usual vibe, we enjoy a drink or two after.

Our cuppings are open to all, no experience necessary. The event is free of charge and drinks are on us but if you’re able to, we suggest making a small donation (£5-10) to our favourite Margate grassroots project - Dane Valley Woods - turning a former waste site into a thriving woodland for all to enjoy. You can make your contribution here.

The event is free but please let us know you’re coming by registering via the link below:

We look forward to seeing you there!
