Let’s learn how to taste coffee & unpack where its flavours come from!
This 2.5h sensory workshop is focused on exploring the journey of coffee from seed to cup, our perception of flavour and the sensory attributes we find in coffee and where they come from.
The session is divided into three parts. In the first part of the session we learn about the factors contributing to forming a flavour profile of a coffee from seed to cup. Starting from geographical origins and plant genetics, through to agronomy and processing, roasting and brewing.
In the second part we explore various tastes, aromas and how they come together to form our sensory experience of flavour. We calibrate our palates by recognising aroma and flavour references we use in coffee evaluation.
And lastly, we bring this all together through a guided 'cupping' - professional coffee tasting. We experience first hand the impact that geography, processing, varieties and more have on the flavour in our cups.
