More about Gogogu & SNAP Coffees:

This delicious washed coffee comes from the Gogogu washing station located in Haro Wolabu woreda within the Guji Zone of Ethiopia's Southern Nations, Nationalities and People’s region.

The region benefits from a red-brown extremely fertile soil and coffee in the area is grown at very high elevation, on occasions surpassing 2000 masl. The Gogogu station is relatively new, set up in 2020 and receives cherry from around 510 grower families based nearby whose farms vary in size between 0.5 and 2 hectares. Unusually for Ethiopia, the coffee trees on these farms are very young, aged between 5 - 10 years, which makes them very productive and contributes to a unique flavour profile of this coffee. Coffee is farmed traditionally and intercropped with other produce to maximise the use of the land. Crops like false bananas also contribute to protecting the soil and fixing nutrients. Organic farming practices are the default and coffee is grown with minimal reliance on pesticides or fertilisers.

This particular lot is processed using the traditional washed method with cherry being sorted prior to de-pulping, before the coffee undergoes a 60 to 72-hour wet fermentation process and is subsequently dried on raised beds for around 10 days.

Established in 2008, SNAP coffees is an exporting company headed up by an experienced entrepreneur, Negusse, with Abenezer Asfaw, an experienced coffee professional, as the supply chain manager. They are a quality focused company with a long-term commitment to producing well crafted coffees. The company now owns and manage multiple wet mills in Gedeo, Guji & West Arsi and partners with further washing stations in the aras. SNAP’s warehousing, processing and lab facilities are located in Addis Abeba.

SNAP's commitment to quality is paired with one to sustainable practices – the company invests heavily in education for their outgrowing farmers (those who sell their cherries to SNAP washing stations) through training in GAP (good agricultural practices), processing and cleaning methods. They also invest in waste recycling systems as well as organic farming practices.
